N45480 The Original Redbird
One of the best ways to make a pilot feel like they are flying a real airplane is to put them in a real airplane. That’s why when we set out to revolutionize the flight simulation industry, they decided to make a simulator out of a real airplane fuselage, salvaged, restored and modified for use as a simulator cockpit. They started searching aircraft graveyards across the state of Texas to find a suitable candidate when they stumbled across N45480 decaying in a field south of Dallas. It was a Cessna 177 Cardinal RG and it was perfect for their first prototype.
Not long after they bought this Cardinal, they realized that the idea of using an old fuselage was not as ingenious as they had once thought. So they revised our plans, and N45480 was sent back to quietly repose in the Texas sun. Although their original plans for her didn’t work out, they’ve never forgotten the plane that was once to become the first FMX. How could they? After-all they named the company after her.
Today Redbird is the most innovative and fresh-thinking simulator manufacturers in the industry. Get in one near you and try them out for yourself.
